Game Recap

In postponed action from Tuesday night, the St. Helen’s Lions were able to make the drive to Hood River to take on the Lady Eagles. HRV over came a slow start and a hot shooting St. Helen’s team to take the home win, 53-45.

St. Helen’s jumped out to an early 13-1 lead behind some hot shooting from Lion wing Maggie Cochran, who had two early 3-pt shots. The Eagles clawed back to within 13-8 to end the 1st quarter, and then used a stellar defensive effort in the 2nd stanza to hold St. Helen’s to only 3 free throws before the half, outscoring the Lions 14-3 in the quarter to take a 22-16 lead at halftime. The 3rd quarter saw a number of lead changes before Hood River pulled ahead 36-34 to end the quarter. Hood River turned up the defensive pressure in the 4th, limiting the Lions to only 2 field goals in the quarter (and 7 free throws), but outscoring St. Helen’s 17-11 to finish out the game.

Hood River was lead by senior guard Nia Lopez with 14 points, followed by Emily Curtis with 13 and Lauren Orr with 8.

The Eagles return to Vannet Court tomorrow night to host the Corbett Cardinals at 7pm.

The Hood River JV girls also won tonight in a tight battle.
