HRV Men’s Basketball team narrowly missed an upset of 7th ranked Hermiston on Thursday night, losing 61-69 in Hermiston. The Eagles came out fighting in the first quarter, winning the tip and getting a quick score. The Eagles led at the end of the 1st, 19-17. By halftime, the Bulldogs had regained the lead 30-36. A strong second half defensive effort kept the Eagles within striking range.
The Eagles, ranked 28th going into the game, were an underdog that didn’t roll over against the opposition. “We played intense basketball,” said Coach Dirks. “The guys worked hard in practice this week, and it showed on the court. We plan to keep the intensity up the rest of the season.”
The Eagles were led by Junior JJ Mears with 20 points, followed by Dakota Kurahara with 16. Trenton Hough and Erik Siekkinen had 7 each. The Eagles take on Hermiston two more times this season, with the home game on Feb 7 at 7 PM.
The JV team lost 42-61. Sophomore Carson Flores had 26 points . The Frosh lost 48-79, with Noah Webster scoring 30 points, including 20 of 25 from the free throw line.
The next Eagles home game is Tuesday, Jan 31 when the Eagles host The Dalles. JV at 4 PM, Varsity boys at 5:15 PM, followed by the Varsity girls at 7 PM. Go Eagles!
