Multiple Teams · Shaner 2nd in the Nation in HS Greco-Roman Wrestling

Congratulations to Wreagle Jason Shaner who earned USA Wrestling  All-American status and was a finalist in the HS National Championships earning 2nd in the nation at 132lbs in High School Greco-Roman Wrestling at the USA Wrestling Junior Greco-Roman Wrestling National Championships in Fargo, ND last week! Shaner’s bracket consisted of 68 participants from 28 different states. Round one Jason beat D. Nava of California 12 – 1. Round 2 he beat J. Bianchini of Illinois 18 – 8. Round 3 Jason beat the #2 seed, J. Greenwood of Colorado 7 – 2. In the quarter finals, Jason beat M. Wilke of Montana 12 – 0. In the semi-finals Jason beat returning All-American J. Karstetter from Oklahoma 6-1. In the finals, Jason fought hard and ended up with less points 1 – 3 to incoming Stanford University freshman D. Young of Washington. “It was a great tournament for Jason.  He wrestled fearlessly. We are proud of his huge accomplishment,” said Trent Kroll, Head Wrestling Coach at HRVHS. The last Greco-Roman All-American for HRVHS was Lucas Mondragon who earned 8th place in Cadets in 2007. Shaner is the first male finalist in the USA Wrestling Nationals in the history of HRVHS.
